The Mustang Mach E received much media attention for being the first Electric Vehicle (EV) to pass the Michigan State Police Test. We here, at PoliceDriver.Com, believe it is well deserved. It may be the first Police EV tested, but it will not be the last.
It will be interesting to compare the EV numbers to those of the other vehicles once they analyze the data. In the interim, we can take a look at the Car and Driver magazine test data of a non-police packaged Mach E, and the results were impressive.
The EV Numbers
The 0 to 60 MPH time was 5.1 seconds. Max speed was 114 MPH, with a governor limiting the speed. The Mustang Mach E stopped from 70 MPH in 165 feet which produces an incredible deceleration rate of .99 G’s or 32.1 ft per second.
The Car and Driver skidpad handling number was .85 G’s also impressive. The .85 G’s indicates that the EV can take 85% of the vehicle’s weight, pushing on its center of gravity before it starts to lose control.
Car and Driver do not test the vehicle’s emergency handling capability. There can be a significant difference between a vehicle’s emergency handling characteristics and the vehicle’s characteristics while driving through a corner. Electric Vehicles Are Here To Stay

A battery, measured in Kilowatts, power the EV. One of the most asked questions was how do you convert Kilo Watts to Horsepower? To do that is simple multiplication. To convert Kilowatts to Horsepower, multiply the Kilowatts by 1.341, and that will give you Horsepower. The higher the KiloWatts, the more the Horsepower.
